Did divine interventi­on play part in Town’s win?

LIKE many football supporters I get slightly annoyed when I see profession­al football players, who have just scored a goal, celebrate by gesturing towards the clouds as if the Lord Almighty was somehow involved in their triumph.

As if the powers that be don’t have enough on their plate with all the problems in the world, without worrying about the outcome of a football match.

During the last few weeks I’ve watched Huddersfie­ld Town suffer one bad refereeing decision after another, blatant penalty decisions not awarded or dubious penalties given against us. The Wigan and Blackburn games for example. (Do we ever get a penalty decision awarded in our favour?). I’m sure other Town fans could think of numerous other incidents that have not gone our way. Things seemed to be going to type again on Saturday against Bristol City, having started the game well going a goal up, we concede a controvers­ial goal, possibly offside.

This was followed by one of the worst decisions I have ever seen when the referee failed to send off the Bristol City keeper for handling the ball outside the area. Despite the fact town striker Nakhi Wells would have been clean in on goal.

The reason given that City had a covering defender. The invisible man presumably! Having decided at this point that all external forces must be against us the aforementi­oned Bristol City keeper, Frank Fielding, inexplicab­ly made a terrible mess of a back pass, gifting the ball to Nakhi Wells who rolled the ball into an empty net – giving Town a much needed and
