Flynn nets two to keep Emley top
AFC EMLEY remained top of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League’s first division after winning away against Ollerton Town 2-0 at The Lane.
Manager Darren Hepworth hailed his side’s dominant defensive display as they kept a fourth consecutive cleansheet.
And while the defence has shut its doors, the attackers have upped the ante in their ruthlessness.
A total of 30 goals hit the back of the net in eight games in November and seven have already been registered so far this month.
That tally was reached at Ollerton thanks to goals from Ashley Flynn on either side of half-time.
Flynn, the league’s top goalscorer with 33 in all competitions, has now scored in eight consecutive league matches – bagging 15 in the process.
He scored his 32nd ten minutes before half-time, but the plaudits belonged to Liam Schofield whose inch-perfect cross to the back post landed on the head of Emley’s striker.
Flynn could have had another straight after the break, but blazed over from 12 yards out.
His persistence for a second did eventually pay off as he slotted under the body of Ollerton goalkeeper Scott Gretton.
Emley, along with their promotion-chasing counterparts, take a break from the league in midweek.
However, there’s no rest for Hepworth and his side as they face Worksop Town at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a League Cup third round tie tomorrow (7.45pm).
