Miriam is no fan of the Sunshine State of mind M

-

IRIAM MARGOLYES has such a wickedly naughty and searingly honest sense of humour that she really could have her own show made up entirely of put-downs.

And she steals every scene in this Christmas offering from The Real Marigold Hotel, which originally saw a group of senior celebs check out retirement in India.

Now actress Miriam, dancer Wayne Sleep, chef Rosemary Shrager and darts champ Bobby George, are reunited for two hilarious banter-filled trips – as they road test retirement across the globe.

Tonight they are in Florida, a haven for senior citizens who want to live out their golden years in gated communities in the sunshine.

“I loathe Florida, it has vulgarity stamped all over it,” says Miriam, “I don’t think there’s going to be much culture. I’m not interested in Botox.”

Meanwhile, Rosemary, who has a brilliantly infectious chuckle, is well up for ironing out her wrinkles.

The four celebs rub along nicely, not afraid to moan and whinge at each other affectionately.

Their first stop is an affordable community near Orlanda, called Oak Run.

It’s a suburbia for the over 55s, which sees 7,000 people enjoying daily exercise, hundreds of clubs and weekly bingo. “What about playing loud music at night?” asks Miriam. “No one does that,” comes the stern reply.

They get into the spirit, with Rosemary throwing a party, Wayne starting a dance class, and Miriam and Bobby heading to the local gun range.

But it’s their second destination – the luxury Polo Club near Miami that will see your chin hit the floor.

The super-rich pensioners here have all had so much cosmetic surgery that none of them can move their faces anymore, and it’s impossible to tell a 50-yearold from an 80-year-old. A thoroughly weird sight. Is this really the American dream?
