A THIRD of children’s centres across Kirklees were told they could be shut in a bid to save £10m. Kirklees Council warned that 11 of its 32 centres may close and there could be job losses too. The aim was to shut old and inefficient buildings. Alan, 65, had a routine scan at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary – and three deadly aneurysms showed up.

He was whisked away for emergency surgery and six hours and 56 staples later he was in the clear.

IT was the decision that few people wanted.

But a plan to close Huddersfield Royal’s A&E unit was given the unanimous go-ahead by Huddersfield and Calderdale NHS bosses.

At first it seemed the plan would be paused as health chiefs accepted there was a list of ‘holes’ in it.

Uncertainty surrounding funding, ambulance travel, major public opposition and other serious concerns were all discussed.

In spite of all this however, the hands of local NHS chiefs were raised and they voted to proceed

HUDDERSFIELD was told it will get a new £10m primary school close to Huddersfield town centre by September 2018.

The school for 420 pupils will be off Clare Hill, replacing allotments and a sports pitch owned by Greenhead College.

Clr Masood Ahmed, Kirklees Council’s Cabinet member for schools, said: “We know there is a need for more pupil spaces in that area in the future.”

A WOMAN will receive a Royal Humane Society award for bravery after pulling a neighbour from her burning home.

Multiple sclerosis sufferer Lynne Spencer, 60, crawled on her hands and knees to pull 92-year-old Peggy Riva from her smoke-filled flat in Paddock.
