Sue Taylor stepped in to conduct morning worship on Christmas Day at the Methodist church with Rebecca and Gabriella Dunne welcoming the congregati­on at the door and Christine Lockwood playing the organ. The refreshmen­ts and a special cake, made by Ruth Colquhoun, of Mirfield, to celebrate the 80-year anniversar­y of Honley Library and Honley Male Voice Choir.

Guests were able to buy copies of the Honley Male Voice Choir CD – Voices in Harmony – celebratin­g their 80 years.

Also on view for the evening was the display showing the history of Honley Library throughout its 80 years, created by some of the ‘Friends’ which was unveiled by the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees at a previous celebratio­n.

The event was hosted by the Friends of Honley Library and a donation was made for Honley Male Voice Choir.

All the Christmas services at St David’s Church were well attended, especially the carols and candleligh­t celebratio­n. The adult and junior choirs were under the direction of Jean Chadwick, the organist and choirmaste­r, and played a full part. The Crib Service on Christmas Eve attracted well over 200 people with the children dressing up as shepherds, wise men and angels. Eddie Purcell and the music group led the singing. Midnight communion on Christmas Eve was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford. Lessons were read by Kathryn Kingdom and Ian Gold, who also led the intercessi­ons and administer­ed the chalice. The organist and choirmaste­r was Jean Chadwick. A large congregati­on on Christmas morning enjoyed the family communion service led by the Rev Nick Heaton. The lesson was read by Helen Woods who also administer­ed the chalice. Children brought one of their favourite Christmas presents to show and the junior choir played a full part in the service. Organist and choirmaste­r was Jean Chadwick. Wednesday morning communion was led by the Rev Nick Heaton with Ian Gold reading the lessons. On New Year’s Day there was a reflective service of holy communion led by Rev Nick Heaton. Ian Gold administer­ed the chalice.
