Mystique set to work her magic

-

AMBER MYSTIQUE landed a first career success at Lingfield last week and she can make it a swift double at Wolverhampton.

The four-year-old failed to get her head in front in three starts for Richard Fahey last year, but switched to the care of Kristin Stubbs, Amber Mystique soon grabbed the spotlight for her new handler.

Tried in a Newcastle maiden last month, Amber Mystique had to settle for second on her debut for the yard, beaten just under two lengths in what was her first start since September 2015.

That outing obviously had the desired effect as she was much sharper in Surrey just over a week ago, showing a good attitude to run out a three-quarter-length winner of what appeared to be a decent maiden event.

Amber Mystique must shoulder a 6lb penalty for that success, but given her progressive profile and the fact she remains only lightly raced, the Sakhee filly could have plenty more to give ahead of the 32Red.com EBF Fillies’ Handicap.

Vogueatti is another that opened her account in the dying days of 2016 who can follow up on her handicap bow in the 32Red Casino Fillies’ Handicap.

The four-year-old did not actually make her racecourse bow until last November, when she ran a race full of promise to finish third over 10 furlongs at Chelmsford.

Returned to the same course and distance three days before Christmas, Vogueatti made no mistakes as she saw off Sea Dweller by half a length despite running in snatches a little bit.

She did not travel anywhere near as well as the second that day but still proved too sharp at the finish, which certainly bodes well for the future.

Vogueatti is clearly not one of trainer Marco Botti’s stable stars but she can make her mark here off a rating of 75.

The Blues Master is currently still entered in the Derby but while his Epsom entry looks well beyond him, the Winners Welcome At Matchbook Exchange Median Auction Maiden Stakes should be within his compass.

Mark Johnston’s charge failed to cut much ice in three turf outings last summer and has shown only limited ability in subsequent all-weather starts.

His recent second at Lingfield would represent only fair form, but he might have to be anything special to win here.

Bigirononhiship can build on a promising start over fences in Wetherby’s Racing UK Profits Returned To Racing Chase.

A point to point winner in May 2015, Rose Davidson’s charge got off to a flying start under Rules when winning on his hurdle bow at Ayr a year ago but could not quite follow up when shouldering a penalty on his next start.

He then signed off with a lacklustre third at Newcastle last February, with the winner on both of those starts, Tomngerry, going on to tackle a Grade One contest at Aintree.
