Brook puts win down to new bowls

TERRY BROOK put his victory in the S Richardson New Year’s Day Handicap down to a new set of bowls bought from a charity shot for just £10!

He made the investment just a couple of weeks ago and they signalled a welcome return to form – and a cheque for £120 – at the Griffin winter venue.

Brook admitted he somehow battled through five matches when he could have lost them all, scoring a 21-19 victory over defending champion Paul Ingleby in the showpiece, sponsored by the Richardson family who were thanked by the club.

The event was a big success, with a field of 32 needing every minute of daylight to complete.

He took the final 21-18 but it was close run thing. This coming Saturday, the Sixteen is sponsored by Andy Cairns and gets under way at 11am.

The Colne Valley Bowling League annual meeting will be held at Longwood BC on Wednesday, January 11.

It’s an 8.30pm start and, as there are major changes to be sorted at the meeting, it is imperative all clubs are represente­d.

Lindley Bowling Club have announced dates for the qualifying rounds of their £2,000 competitio­n.

The qualifying rounds at the Daisy Lea Lane club will be held on June 30, July 7, July 14 and July 21 at 6.30pm, with 16 bowlers playing down to two each night – bowlers from the same club will be kept apart in the draw.

The final will be on Friday, July 28, with the winner to receive £600 and the runner-up £300.
