Giant cheer for dancing squad’s superb success

YOUNGSTERS found out about the work of the police and the fire service during a community day in Huddersfie­ld.

A fire appliance from Huddersfie­ld fire station and a police van attracted huge interest at the event held by the Ahmadhiyya Muslim Youth Community at Spaines Road mosque in Birkby.

About 60 people took part in the community day, which also included physical activities such as strongman competitio­n and a chance to try out archery.

Youth leader Nida-ul-Haq said the annual community day aimed to inform the boys about issues such as the importance of being good citizens and pursuing a healthy lifestyle, adding: “The whole point of the event is to encourage young people and inform them of the various situations they might encounter in their lives – and to keep them on the right track.” their respective divisions.

Robyn Evans, coach at the Dance Zone, hailed the weekend an amazing success for both the cheerleade­rs and parents who all came to support the team in their first competitio­n of the season.

Robyn said: “The standard of training and rehearsal has been second to none from our kids ever since the beginning of season.

“We are already on with reviewing the scoresheet­s from the competitio­n and have plans in place for the next few weeks to up our game throughout the rest of the season and are looking forward to our next competitio­n in Sheffield in March and then National Championsh­ips in July in Birmingham.

“The parents have all been so fantastic in organising little bits behind the scenes to make things run smoothly. I’m one happy coach.”

The other results were as follows: Mini Level 1 under-8s category 5th place. Junior 3 Stunt Group (under14s) 3rd place.

Senior 3 Stunt Group were up against some of the hardest routines in the competitio­n and ‘did themselves justice’ by pulling in at eight place.
