Kane is able to close gap for hot Spurs

-

HARRY KANE won his top-scorer tussle with Romelu Lukaku by bagging a brace as Tottenham held on for a 3-2 victory over Everton.

Kane and Lukaku began the day tied at the top of the Premier League goal-charts, and the pair took centre stage again as Kane’s double put Spurs two up before Lukaku’s late strike sparked hopes of a comeback.

Dele Alli restored the two-goal cushion in injury-time before substitute Enner Valencia added another goal seconds later to complete a dramatic finish at White Hart Lane.

Victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s men means they reduce the gap behind league leaders Chelsea to seven points, with the Blues travelling to West Ham tonight.

Sergio Aguero struck for the fifth time in three games as Manchester City eased past relegation-haunted Sunderland and back into third.

Aguero’s 42nd-minute strike handed City the lead and Leroy Sane added a second after the break to secure a 2-0 victory on a day when Pep Guardiola’s men were made to work harder than they might have anticipated to claim the points.

The win - their seventh in eight games in all competitions - leaves them eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea ahead of Wednesday night’s home clash with Stoke.

Liverpool heaped more pressure on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with a 3-1 victory at Anfield on Saturday to move back into the top four of the Premier League and leave the Gunners in fifth.

Roberto Firmino fired the Reds into the lead on nine minutes before Sadio Mane drilled in a second five minutes before half-time.

Wenger - who has seen his position come under pressure following a poor run including a 5-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League - made a change at the break when he sent on Alexis Sanchez.

The Chile forward had an instant impact as his pass set up Danny Welbeck to reduce the deficit on 56 minutes.

However, the Gunners were unable to conjure an equaliser and were hit on the break in stoppage time when Georginio Wijnaldum swept in Divock Origi’s cross.

In Saturday’s early kick-off United were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.

United, who could have moved into the top four with victory, took the lead after 23 minutes through Marcos Rojo.

However, Joshua King equalised from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.

Leicester came from behind to beat relegation battlers Hull 3-1 for a second win of the week at the King Power Stadium.

Crystal Palace moved out of the bottom three with a 2-0 win at West Brom, while Middlesbrough dropped into the relegation places after they went down 2-0 at Stoke.
