Heath pairing win Parkinson Trophy prize

-

CROSLAND Heath duo Rob Booth and Paul Crosse were the winners in the Halifax-Huddersfield District Alliance’s Ronnie Parkinson Trophy at Ryburn Golf Club.

Booth and partner Crosse took the trophy on countback from Andy Mellor, of Outlane, and Jake Smith, of Longley Park, with a score of 46 points.

The competition returned to its origin at Ryburn for the 15th anniversary of its inception.

Although there was only a small field of 20 pairs, the standard was very high reflected by the 10 under par winning scores.

In the pro-am Booth and Crosse (11) were in strong form as professional Booth recorded three birdies and was more than helped by his partner who had three nett birdies plus two nett eagles – and they had no dropped shots.

Behind the winners and runners-up were two pairs from Dewsbury District.

Both Nigel Hirst and Fergus Barron (3) and James Ward and Jonathan Binns (4) finished on 42 points.

The am-am was won convincingly by Outlane’s Mellor (13) and Longley Park’s Smith (14) with 46 points.

Their very tidy card had only one shot dropped – at the last hole – with Mellor recording six nett birdies and Smith five.

Three Ryburn pairs recorded 42 points each, the second place going to Neal Hessleden (11) and David Crowther (12) on a back nine countback.

With only two more events to go in the Alliance series, the professional order of merit has Ward holding on with a just a one point lead over Booth. The club championship looks settled with only the Bradley Hall event to come.

Crosland Heath have 383 points, Dewsbury 375 and Meltham 365.

The next alliance is the postponed Bradley Hall event which will be held on Tuesday, April 18, with the Page Trophy being staged a week later at Dewsbury.
