Both Barnsley openers made good use of pace scoring runs off Upperthong’s Ben Balmforth and were 24-0 after nine overs.

Jay Cyrus, bowling a tight line from the Clubhouse end, was rewarded with the first wicket in the 10th over – the first of four dismissals for Hall Bower’s wicketkeeper Tom Calvert.

The introduction of James Rawlingson from the Cannon Hall End lead to success in the 13th over, with Page caught at second slip by Rory France.

Rawlingson struck again in the 19th over with skipper Jacob Holling edging behind to Calvert.

Huddersfield then tried left-arm spin from both ends.

Will Reeves induced a false shot from opener Oliver Bennett, who was caught by Dyson for 24, and two overs later, Almondbury Wesleyans Ben Shufflebotham had Blackburn caught to a superb cathch by Joe Clough.

Barnsley were 63-5 at the halfway stage, with only 15 runs scored in 10 overs.

With the spinners in full control Barnsley were unable to rely on pace to score runs.

Fletcher and Higgins eked out 24 runs over the next 12 overs, before Higgins was stumped by Calvert off Shufflebotham.

Fletcher continued his watchful innings, but was eventually caught by Cyrus off Shufflebotham for 16 (off 69 balls), leaving Barnsley 104-7 after 45 overs.

Musa Ahmed replaced Reeves at the Clubhouse End.
