Lock Lane responded with three converted scores of their own through scheming half backs Danny Sowerby (2) and Joe Wilock, who slotted three conversion­s.

Rangers had hooker Rochford back in their starting 13 with Andy Boothroyd unavailabl­e.

Centre Alex Chatterton returned, half back Pogson was fit again after illness and Joey Eichner returned to the squad after his loan spell at Toronto Wolfpack came to an end.

It only took three minutes for the hosts to open the scoring.

Following a strong run from front rower Jordan Williams, hooker Rochford dummied through from acting half and Pogson converted.

Lock Lane weren’t going to roll over and after 15 minutes they led 12-6 after first Sowerby burrowed over, and then completed his brace after having too much pace for Rochford – half back Wilock converted both tries.

However, the visitors lead was only to last five minutes as Pogson launched a kick to the corner and Eichner leapt to catch and crash over in one movement.

Pogson converted and did so again in the 25th minute following his own score after racing in from 60 yards.

The first half scoring was completed on 37 minutes as Clark raced on to a Harrop pass, and Clark used great skills to thread his way past three defenders for a tremendous score.

Pogson missed the extras but Rangers held a ten point lead at the half-time break.

Underbank started the second half in roaring fashion as they tore the opposition defence to ribbons, but Rangers could not convert the clean breaks into points.

Lock Lane made the home side pay dearly as Sowerby sliced through the Underbank defensive line with ease, round Harop at full back and then hand to the supporting Wilock who did the rest.

Wilock added the two points on offer and the visitors only trailed by four points.

However, that was as good as it got in the second half for the visitors as they could not build any concerted pressure as they spilled far too much possession to be able to do so.

Not that Underbank were much better in the handling department, but they did have the wherewitha­l to post two second half tries through Harrop after he received a great offload from Pogson, and then left wing Allette sealed the win in the left corner after Rochford, Billy Rog-
