The model and winning designs went on show when golf club president Charles Webb presented the prizes. Actress and storytelle­r Ursula Holden-Gill also gave a performanc­e as Fixby Hall’s ‘ancestor’ and heiress Clara Thornhill.

Trina Skjoldan Nielsen, who led the outreach project, said: “The students at all ages have been enthusiast­ic and excited about the past and the future of Fixby Hall. We will continue to develop new ideas and designs working with the golf club and other stakeholde­rs over the coming months and years.”

Guests at the awards included Kirklees councillor­s Amanda Pinnock and Jean Calvert; Jackie Ward, of Rastrick High School; Catherine Jubbs, head of Lindley Junior School; and Alex Griffin, of the university.

Fixby Hall was built over several centuries and modernised in 18th century in the Georgian style. The hall has been leased to Huddersfie­ld Golf Club since 1891. BREXIT, elder care and pensioner benefits were discussed at the last meeting of the Huddersfie­ld Over Fifties Forum (HOFF).

Carol Sayer, one of five delegates from Huddersfie­ld at the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) gave an update to members.

After the report a moving and informativ­e talk was given by Bob Mortimer, a tireless champion for the Royal British Legion.

The next meeting of the Over Fifties Forum is on Thursday, July 20, at 1pm in the Old Court Room at Huddersfie­ld Town Hall.

Admission is £2 and includes a raffle and refreshmen­ts.

The speaker is Paul Russell, Chairman of Yorkshire and Humberside National Pensioners Convention.

Jean Lorriman, press officer for HOFF, said “All over fifties are welcome, especially new members.”
