Kelly’s effort

HONLEY skipper Simon Kelly hit a sparkling 132 – but his side suffered a 12-run defeat in a thriller against Delph.

Kelly’s men made a spirited effort to chase down Delph’s imposing 290-3 at Far End Lane, but came up just short in a cracking Drakes Premiership clash.

Shreevats Goswami anchored the Delph innings with 105 off 99 balls, hitting 12 boundaries, and received excellent back-up from Lancashire’s Luke Procter, who hit 87 not out from 89 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.

Kelly took the attack to Delph with 12 fours and three sixes and his 132 came off just 145 deliveries.

Lewis Kenworthy hit 30 and Tim Taylor 25, while Richard Porter pushed Honley closer with 35 from 25 balls, including four fours and a six.

But Brett Randell and Tommy Woodhead, requiring 26 off the last two overs, couldn’t get Honley over the line at the end as Shakir Muhammad finished with four for 64 from his 15 overs.

Chris Holliday scored another ton, this time 117 not out, as leaders Hoylandswaine opened a 16-point gap with an eight-wicket win at Skelmanthorpe.

Kirkburton won the battle of the bottom two with Andrew Smith scoring 102 not out as they knocked off 222-8 against Barkisland at Riley Lane for the loss of just three.

Thongsbridge fell closer to trouble after losing at home to Golcar. The Bridge put up 243 but, with James Howson hitting 75, Golcar got home with seven down.
