HONLEY bowler Brett Randell has been offered a first-round domestic contract with Northern Districts in New Zealand.

The 22-year-old seamer has taken 34 wickets at 21.18 for Honley so far, helping Simon Kelly’s side move to fifth in the Drakes Premiership and reach the semifinals of the Total Indoor Cricket Solutions T20 Trophy.

Randell made the move from Auckland to Northern Districts at the start of the last domestic campaign and made his first-class breakthrough with Plunket Shield matches against Wellington in Mount Maunganui and Otago in Dunedin.

That followed a season with Denby CC in Derbyshire and Ford Trophy figures of four for 34 against Canterury in January.

He’s now been rewarded for his second experience of England with terms back home – former Barkisland ace Tim Seifert is also included among those offered firstround deals by Northern Districts.

Randell, who plays at Northland with former Broad Oak batsman Henry Cooper, played for New Zealand Under 19s and has played two first-class matches so far in addition to three List A games.

The six Major Associations in New Zealand have two rounds of contract offers and can name 15 players in total. Northern Districts have names 14 in the first round, leaving one available space.

Former Golcar wicketkeeper batsman Cameron Fletcher, who was formerly with Northern Districts, is a first-round pick for Canterbury.
