Acton hearing delayed again
LEIGH Centurions forward Jamie Acton’s disciplinary case has been delayed for a second time so his legal representative can attend.
Acton, 25, was charged with “other contrary behaviour” after an incident in their defeat by Catalans on 1 July.
The case was adjourned on 4 July for one week after Leigh requested more time to prepare for the hearing.
He is accused of grabbing Greg Bird’s shirt, lifting him and then pushing him to the floor as he lay injured.
The secondary delay request was granted, provided Acton does not play for Leigh in Friday’s match against Huddersfield Giants.
Acton has already missed a 50-10 defeat by Warrington after the case was adjourned the first time.
He was charged with a Grade F offence, the most serious on the Rugby Football League’s disciplinary scale, which carries a minimum ban of eight games if found guilty. ■■Warrington forward Andre Savelio will play for England coach Wayne Bennett next season after signing a two-year contract with Brisbane Broncos.
The 22-year-old back rower clearly caught the eye of Bennett during the Wolves’ shock 27-18 win over the Broncos in the World Club Series in February.
Savelio will see out the rest of his contract with Warrington as they battle for their survival in Super League before linking up with Bennett’s men and joining the likes of Sam Burgess and James Graham in the NRL.
“I have spoken to Brisbane a few times and I just thought now was the time as I feel more than ready to do it,” he said.
“A lot of English forwards have done well in the NRL, so it was always something I had thought about.
“And I always thought the Broncos would be the team I wanted to go to if I did do it.
“Now I am just excited to get down there.”
Savelio made his Super League debut for St Helens in 2014 at the age of 19 but last season went out on loan to Castleford, for whom he made seven appearances, and subsequently joined Warrington on a 12-month deal.
Broncos chief executive Paul White said: “Andre is a strong young forward and we have seen first-hand what he can do on the field in England.”
