HONLEY SHOW

-

The Honley Show aims to promote agriculture, outdoor skills and responsibility for the countryside. With animal competitions (for a wide variety of breeds), food, drink, shopping and other entertainment, the show is always a fun day out for the whole family.

The first Honley Show was 96 years ago, launching on Saturday, August 27 1921 – though there is some evidence to suggest earlier shows. Since then, the show has gone from strength to strength and now regularly attracts between 10,000 to 15,000 people every year.Aside from an unavoidable break during the Second World War, the show has been held in or near Honley on a regular basis.

This year’s show was another classic with slightly wet weather not dampening the visitors, exhibitors and competitors spirits. Braving the elements, the usual large crowds turned up, not deterred by the rain and mud.

All the usual favourites were present, with ‘best-inshow competitions for the usual wide range of farm animals, actionpacked dog agility competition, delicious food and great shopping!

The day was brought to an impressive close by the Grand Parade lead by the magnificent Robinson’s Brewery Dray and Team of Shires.

The show’s organisers always give back to the community where they can, and this year supported Yorkshire Air Ambulance as the event’s nominated charity.

The dedicated team of organisers are already preparing for next year’s event with the date set for June 9 2018. If this year is anything to go by the event is sure to be another day to remember, regardless of the weather!
