HUDDERSFIELD have once again been crowned champions of Yorkshire at the annual Inter-District Bowling Competition.

They made it two consecutive titles when beating the hosts, East Coast, comfortably 196-121 in the final.

The team, sponsored by Crown Green Live, had to make the long journey to East Coast for the one-day event to defend their title.

And it wasn’t all plain sailing for the champions, as they had to escape the ‘group of death’ with Halifax and Wakefield at Dukes Park.

First up were 2011 champions Halifax and, after five jacks, Huddersfield found themselves in the unfamiliar territory of trailing by six points.

The Huddersfield back men rallied, however, and with three winners managed to record a marginal victory of 12.

Next were 2015 champions Wakefield, who had already suffered a huge defeat to Halifax, recording just two winners.

That left Huddersfield needing to better that result in order to progress to the semi-finals, which they did by having only one loser and topping the group.

The cliffs of Bridlington Bay were the setting for the semi-final clash with West Riding.

At the half-way point things seemed to be very close, with Huddersfield just edging in front by a couple of points, but again the Huddersfield back men upped a gear to record a 36-point win.

For the final, with green knowledge on their side at a rain-soaked Hunmanby BC, some said the East Coast team were favourites.

But that belief was short lived as Huddersfield player-of-the-day Wayne Moseley recorded a 21-10 victory and his teammates followed to record an overall victory of 75 points.

Huddersfield manager Dave Fox said: “I am delighted with the whole team performance and think that with the amount of players we can pick, it’s very hard to pick just 10.”

(Huddersfield names first) Wayne Mosley 21-10 D Lowe, Jack Dyson 21-8 A Deighton, Dave Fox 21-7 G Watson, Ashley Tattersley 21-7 N Trotter, Andy Cairns 21-6 J Bird, Mark Atkinson 21-18 J Coyne, John Greenhalgh 21-10 K Gates, Gary Siswick 21-16 G Price, Mark Bramall 7-21 W Holdsworth, Nicky White 21-16 P Morgan.
