Zenon to work his magic at Chester

-

ZENON can maintain his progressive profile by taking his winning run to three in the MBNA Festival Of Football Handicap on a fine card at Chester tomorrow that rounds off Glorious Goodwood week.

John Gosden took the Goodwood Cup with Stradivarius and has another likeable young stayer in this son of Galileo.

He looks versatile ground-wise, having won on soft at Chepstow and then good to firm at Haydock on his last two starts.

Like his Group One-winning stablemate, Zenon holds an entry in the William Hill St Leger, but perhaps more interestingly he is in the Betfred Ebor on August 26 even though not many three-year-olds get in York’s big handicap these days.

He can take this nice prize on the way to maybe going on to better things.

Judicial is another horse going in the right direction and can back up a good fourth to Take Cover in the City Walls Stakes at York by landing the Total Fitness Queensferry Stakes.

The five-year-old, trained by Julie Camacho, spreadagled a field of fivefurlong handicappers on this course in May. That victory was sandwiched between wins at Pontefract and Beverley.

They, too, were over the minimum trip and while he has yet to run up to his best over an extra furlong, this is certainly the right time to try. Connections might be rewarded with these Listed spoils.

James Bethell has a potentially smart juvenile in Ulshaw Bridge, who looked useful when getting off the mark in good style at York.

The North Yorkshire trainer was ruing not giving him an entry in the Gimcrack Stakes back at the Knavesmire later this month.

However, the less ambitious approach of running him in the Horseradish Hospitality At Southport Flower Show/EBF Stallions Conditions Stakes is a wise option for now.

Outback Blue ran well at the May meeting on the Roodee when fourth to Storm King and looked a shade unlucky when beaten a neck by Cornborough at Haydock on his latest start. He can go one better in the Merseyrail Handicap for trainer David
