Longwood retain a firm Trophy grip

THE threatened thundersto­rm never really emerged from over the hills at Hemplow but Eddie Hine served up his own lightning performanc­e as he stormed to a first Huddersfie­ld Over 80s title.

After dispatchin­g reigning champion, Dennis Iredale, 21-16 in the semi-finals, the Kirkheaton C&BC bowler went on to provide a masterclas­s of long-mark bowling to beat Geoff Rollinson from Holmfirth 21-7 in the final.

Geoff had eliminated last year’s beaten finalist, Bill Blackburn from Lindley BC, in the other semi-final to ensure there was going to be no re-run of last year’s final line-up. At the Julie Fuller Trophy final, sponsor Julie Fuller and competitio­n secretary David Sykes show off the trophy to the Clayton West and Longwood teams THE Colne Valley League Merit will be bowled this year as a One Day Competitio­n.

It will be held as usual at Golcar Liberal Club, who are also the sponsors, with a 10.30am prompt start.

The bar will be open and food available from the kitchen throughout the day.

All are welcome to a good day of top class bowling.
