Longwood retain a firm Trophy grip
THE threatened thunderstorm never really emerged from over the hills at Hemplow but Eddie Hine served up his own lightning performance as he stormed to a first Huddersfield Over 80s title.
After dispatching reigning champion, Dennis Iredale, 21-16 in the semi-finals, the Kirkheaton C&BC bowler went on to provide a masterclass of long-mark bowling to beat Geoff Rollinson from Holmfirth 21-7 in the final.
Geoff had eliminated last year’s beaten finalist, Bill Blackburn from Lindley BC, in the other semi-final to ensure there was going to be no re-run of last year’s final line-up. At the Julie Fuller Trophy final, sponsor Julie Fuller and competition secretary David Sykes show off the trophy to the Clayton West and Longwood teams THE Colne Valley League Merit will be bowled this year as a One Day Competition.
