CLECKHEATON-BASED employment law specialist Howarths has invested more than £50,000 in the launch of a specialist team designed to support SMEs with HR issues and people management.

Howarths’ HR and investigations department will focus on delivering HR-related services including onsite employee investigations, recruitment and selection and employee engagement support.

The new team will be led by Bob Cherry, who was appointed to the role in July following a number of senior people management and investigation roles in the public sector.

He will work closely with Howarths’ newly-formed HR team led by HR advisor Tracey Hopkins and supported by HR assistant EllieMae Fisher and HR administrator Caitlan Price.

The department is forecast to boost company turnover by 5% in the first year, growing to 10% by August, 2019.

Howarths has also engaged Huddersfield-based PR and communications consultant Alex Mason to raise the profile of the company across target media in Yorkshire and the North West,

Howarths, established in 2003 by chairman Andy Howarth, acts as an outsourced employment law and HR department for more than 400 SMEs across Yorkshire. The firm’s health and safety division also ensures that companies effectively manage risk and achieve legal compliance.

Howarths managing director Gavin Howarth said: “There have been many developments within the business over the last six months, not least the launch of a new HR and investigations department and our own independent charity, The Howarth Foundation.

“We now want to work with someone who is able to help us spread the message further about Howarths and put us in front of both existing and potential clients whilst telling the story of our brand.

“We’ve been impressed with Alex’s work over the past few months and I’m confident that his PR expertise and knowledge of the media landscape will continue to achieve great coverage for Howarths.”

Following a six-year career in brand management for the Arcadia Group and most recently as a senior PR account manager for a Brighousebased agency, Alex established himself as a PR and communications consultant in May this year.
