Spotlight on Hannah as she wins place at top drama school
A FORMER Greenhead College student is heading for the spotlight after winning a place at a prestigious drama school.
Hannah Driver is leaving Huddersfield for London to take up her place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) on the technical theatre and stage management course.
The teenager will specialise in costume design and construction.
She achieved her place despite tough competition from 150 applicants and never having studied drama before her A-Levels at the college.
Alongside drama Hannah studied art and design and English literature, achieving two A*s and an A.
She specialised in costume whilst studying drama and is convinced that the number of productions she had the opportunity to work on, developing her design and making skills, were a key factor in impressing the RADA panel.
She said: “There is so much support from teachers and technicians, including working with professional costume designers.
“This made me much more confident in applying to such a prestigious institution.
Hannah also feels that her work experience, organised as part of the college’s work placement scheme (PaWS), was invaluable and led to work in the costume departments of professional theatres.
She is excited at the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and feels her time at Greenhead has inspired her to pursue her career in the creative industries.
Jane Phelan, head of drama and theatre at the college, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for Hannah, she has worked so hard over the two years at college and she deserves the success that she has achieved.
“The results for all of the Drama and Theatre students are significantly above national performance yet again.
“They are a true testament to the hard work and dedication from both the students and staff at Greenhead College.”
