the Winter League in Huddersfield and one in the West Yorkshire League on Saturday mornings as they reach their half century.

The age range of the players is 15 to 73!

A dinner and dance has been organised for March 10 next year, when tables are available and there will be an auction of memorabilia and some raffle prizes.

First-team vice-captain Nutan Joshi, who is also a Huddersfield League committee member, explained: “We sold lots of pink t-shirts in memory of Maureen Kelly (who also has the park tournament named after her).

“It’s in aid of cancer research and we also produced a netball calendar.

“We have #dontletcancerstealourgame printed on the back of the pink tops.

“Now we have the dinner in March and we are looking to organise a charity netball match – Giants v Terriers has been suggested as an idea.

“It would be great if we could get some local celebrities involved, so #kellysheroesnetball is trending on social media and getting on as many platforms as possible to spread the word.”

She added: “It would be brilliant to see grassroots netball getting some backing from more established and well-known sports.

“Netball is on the rise with participation increasing every year – and being shown on Sky Sports as well as the BBC is huge.

“Any help would be instrumental in what the club are trying to achieve.

“We have numerous members battle cancer as well as family members suffering and passing away from the disease, so we want to make the anniversary as special as possible and raise as much as we can for charity.

“Reaching 50 is no easy task, so we want to make the events as successful as possible and I would love for other sports to be involved in this enormous occasion for our club.

“Keeping it local and involving the community is what it’s all about.”
