campaign due to a foot injury.

However, the full-back is shaping up for a full pre-season and Giants club ambassador Eorl Crabtree is expecting big things from Mamo.

“Jake Mamo is an “X-Factor” player and we didn’t know what to expect from him when he arrived,” said Crabtree.

“When I saw him at training he was recovering from his injury, but he recovered, put his boots on and he got 12 tries in nine games which is just fantastic.

“He has scored those tries for us when we needed them to secure our Super 8s place and he is a star player to look out for.”

And Crabtree is expecting Mamo and pack powerhouse Sebastine Ikahihifo, who won all the club’ player awards for 2017, to be a focal point for head coach Rick Stone’s side next season.

“I think Mamo and Sebastine Ikahihifo are two stand-out performers for us and we’re excited that they are in our ranks and next year is going to be really exciting seeing them fit and firing next season,” added Crabtree.

“Jake Mamo scores tries that so few other people could score because of his pace and the fact that he gets himself in places that nobody could do.

“He recognises and reads the game like no other full-back that I’ve seen for some time.

“Jake has that speed that really kills teams off, he gets himself in places where nobody else can to score those tries and he’s got a bit of skill, as we saw in that try away to Catalans Dragons when he chipped the ball over the top and ran onto it.

“It’s a joy to see and he stands out as one of those players that’s going to be absolutely huge for the Huddersfield Giants’ season in 2018.”
