Santa pays a Welcome visit to help the needy

YOUNG Huddersfield Gymnasts have hailed their first event a success.

White Rose Gymnastics hosted the event at Mirfield Free Grammar Sports Centre to allow members to achieve grades set out by governing body, British Gymnastics.

The event had a festive-feel with a raffle, a Christmas quiz, a “Snowball Challenge” throwing competition, and Professional Juggler Mr Slava from the amazing show “Eclipse”.

During the event demonstrations were provided by Competition Class Rhythmic gymnasts from two other clubs: from Deeside Gymnastics Club in North Wales and One Step Rhythmic Gymnastics Club from Blackpool.

Olga Fleming from the Club said: “Despite this being our first event, with the club being a new start-up, the event was an overall success, thanks to our volunteers for judging and coaching and generally helping.

“We would also like to thank all parents who attended the event.”

The club currently don’t have their own gymnasium but rent space at facilities in Bradley, Mirfield, Brighouse and Meltham. financial crisis. We very much appreciate donations like this – they really do make a difference to people’s lives and help give a little hope at Christmas.”

KNH chief executive, Liz Cook, said: “The Welcome Centre plays a vital role and helps many of our tenants who are facing tough times, so we were keen to support their fantastic work and give something back.

“I’m delighted that so many of our staff recognise the value of the work and the impact on people in need and hope our donations make life a little easier for people at this time of year.”

As well as a van load of food donations, staff have also supported the Welcome Centre throughout 2017 by taking part in a number of activities, including a bowling competition, sponsored fast, fuddles and a tuck shop, which together have raised over £1,350.
