Appeal to identify happy couple in holiday snaps

-

A BATLEY man allegedly committed fraud when he tried to buy a council house he was not living in.

Khabaab Raja applied to purchase the Ashworth Close property through the Right to Buy scheme, Kirklees magistrates were told.

He would have received a £30,000 discount but the house was not his main or only residence and so he committed fraud, Kirklees Council prosecutor David Stickley said. Raja, currently of Providence Street in Batley, gave no indication of plea to the charge of fraud by false representation dating from February 9.

He claims that he’d moved out of the house due to issues with damp but had intended to renovate it and then move back in.

Magistrates committed the 31-year-old’s case to Leeds Crown Court where he will appear there on March 1. Unconditional bail was granted. DO you recognise the happy smiling faces in this holiday snap?

Huddersfield Town fan Jean Cain found a memory card dropped outside the ticket office at the John Smith’s Stadium at Saturday’s game against Birmingham City.

Pictures on the card show the same couple in happy holiday mood. In one of the photographs the couple are sipping cocktails and the man is sporting a distinctive Hawaiian-style shirt emblazoned with Barbados on the sleeves.

Jean posted an appeal on Facebook but no one has yet claimed the memory card.

Jean wrote: “These photos are obviously very valuable to somebody. If anybody out there recognises this couple please message me. Please share this post!

“Let’s try to return this valuable collection of photos to its rightful owner.”

If you know the happy couple message Jean or the Examiner on Facebook or email editorial@examiner.co.uk
