Knife crime sentences should be a lot tougher

-

Bichon and poodle/doodle groups are usually the same; owners get told they’re low maintenance and then we have to shave the poor things bald. The welfare act states we have to do what’s best for the dog, if we can’t brush it out we shave it. No nonsense. She had no right to cut his dog’s hair off without consulting him, end of, she had no right to do that... And neither did he... Lord Hurd of Westwell, former foreign secretary, Michael Grade, former ITV executive chairman, Micky Dolenz, actor/singer,

Gyles Brandreth, ex-MP, author and TV personality Cheryl Baker, singer/TV presenter Gary Numan, rock musician, IT was interesting to read the article on knife crime in Monday’s Examiner.

I do not think a compulsory six-month sentence will help a lot to reduce the crime.

The thugs involved will look on this as a holiday on us with paid accommodation and free meals. They will serve their time and then come out and carry on where they left off.

Mark Burns-Williamson thinks the guideline from the sentencing council should send a clear warning to knife carrying criminals. I tend to disagree.

The punishment should be a minimum of six years and they pay for their board and lodgings, and if they want to appeal they should pay the cost of the hearing.

There is too much crime in this country and we should take a firmer stand against it. the mess gets worse.

I put it to your readers who voted for Brexit: If you were voting today, knowing what you know now, would you still vote the same? APPEARS the penny hasn’t dropped for some that we’ve already had a democratic referendum to either remain or leave the EU.

The result being that we are leaving the EU in March 2019.

The desire of some to have another referendum would be a denial of our democratic constitution.

Personally, I value our timetested constitutions, and the independent freedoms to manage ourselves (as we once did up until deceitful political shenanigans took a foothold in the 70s and up to present time) which we are far from incapable of doing so - there’s a world out there beyond the controlling EU.

There’s still a propagandist fear campaign being exercised by a media beholden to the EU, a media which detracts from revealing widespread discontent with the Union across EU member nations.

Italy has just had their national elections where their anti-EU party had a resounding success - they may yet have their very own Italexit referendum next.

The BBC itself chose to play that down and report on Bradley Wiggins and Iran instead.

Seems to me many are ignorant to seeking out the realities which the media doesn’t present.

By and large the mainstream media keeps you blinded ... look elsewhere. I CAMPAIGNED and voted to remain in Europe in 2016, but I accept the democratic decision of the majority of voters who wish to come out.

I certainly do not accept the argument for a second referendum, we have had years of discussion on this subject in the pubs, cafes, buses, post offices, housing estates etc.

During the campaign every where I went I was asked the same question ‘in or out?’

Politicians on both sides were dishonest in the campaign, the argument that they understood Brexit better than the voters is patronising and I am reminded of an old quote from the late Bertolt Brecht: “You cannot reelect the electorate; you have to live with their judgement.”

So be it.
