-

The Billiards Championship concludes the season on Friday, May 18 (7.30), with Tony Clegg of Marsh Lib facing Matthew Peaker of Brockholes BC.

Full list of finals: Conrad Norcliffe v Rob Armitage at Crosland Moor (7.30). C Norcliffe and M Beck (Lower Hopton) v M Naeem and A Boothroyd (Crosland Moor) at Marsh Lib (7.30). G Whitehouse (Marsh Lib) v R Steer (Berry Brow Lib), T Clegg (Marsh Lib) v S Redfearn (Upper Hopton) at Crosland Moor (7.30). BROCKHOLES BC completed a League and Cup double in the Huddersfield Sunday School Billiards League when they landed the Singleton Cup.

Matthew Peaker of Brockholes made the highest break in the group fixtures.

He posted a break of 95, falling just short of another century in his win over New North Road player Chris Bintcliffe.

Other noted breaks over 25 were made by David Peaker, Jack Dyson, Chris Evans and Tim Whitehouse.

The top two teams who qualified for the final at Rastrick New Road were Brockholes BC and New North Road A.

The draw for the cup final put Jack Dyson up against Steve Hellawell.

Brockholes BC player Dyson was giving away 120 points start on the handicap.

He made a solid start and soon found some form when he made back-to-back breaks of 28 and 33 to claw back some of his deficit.

Dyson was scoring at regular intervals and another break of 31 saw him take the lead for the first time and, requiring only 29 for victory, he needed a further two scoring visits to take the first match 200-154.

The second match was between Matthew Peaker and Chris Bintcliffe.

Brockholes player Peaker was giving away a huge 230 points start on the handicap and he knew he would have to score heavily and consistently to take the second match.

Peaker started the match off with a couple of smaller breaks and then followed these with a 40 to reduce Bintcliffe’s lead by nearly half.

He then made back-to-back breaks of 62 and 38 to now get within 30 points of his opponent.

Peaker needed only three more visits to take the second match 200-180.

That second win meant a 2-0 overall win and the third game between David Peaker and Gilbert Thomas wasn’t needed. It also secured a superb season for the Brockholes side who managed to do a League and Cup Double once more.
