High-profile ex-students speak at college event

Town commercial director Sean Jarvis hosted the event, interviewed the two speakers and facilitating a Q&A session.
Lydia Butterworth, head of sales and marketing at the college, said: “As someone who is Huddersfield born and bred, I’m immensely proud of our town and the accomplishments of its residents.
“It was fascinating to hear from our alumni – Dean and Siobhan – who were informative and entertaining in equal measures.”
Dean, originally from Heckmondwike, was at Dewsbury and Batley Technical and Arts College (DABTAC) as an engineering apprentice in 1984.
He founded greeting card and gifts retailer Card Factory alongside his wife in 1997. By 2009, the company had more than 500 stores employing more than 5,000 people.
Dean sold the business in 2010 when he was a host of accolades. He was named Business Person of the Year at the 2011 Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards.
Dean joined the board of directors at Huddersfield Town in April, 2008, as chairman-elect and took over as chairman in June, 2009.
Siobhan Greene, who hails from Shelley, is head of television at Syco TV and producer of some of the biggest shows on UK TV, including X Factor, Stepping Out, and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
She started her career at Yorkshire Television in Leeds as a typist, after learning the skill as a student at Huddersfield Technical College.
She worked as a runner, then researcher on The Time The Place, and fly on the wall documentary series Jimmy’s before moving to Granada in Manchester to work on Stars in their Eyes and You’ve Been Framed. During her time, she co-created Popstars the Rivals and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
In 2003 she set up Syco Television alongside Simon Cowell and Nigel Hall where they co-created and executive produced The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
She returned to ITV to become director of entertainment for ITV Studios in 2012 and in 2016 was made head of entertainment commissioning. ECHNICAL public relations firm Scriba PR has appointed Amy Lloyd as junior account manager.
Amy joins the Lindley-based agency from a role as a project officer at Super Break and has marketing and copywriting skills.
Scriba managing director Katie Mallinson said Amy, who has a languages degree, would help take care of its latest clients, liaise with the media and draft blogs, features, awards entries and press releases as well as managing social media accounts. In time, she will also become responsible for increased campaign planning and strategy.
Scriba has seven employees and 32 clients, including tech specialist Vapour Cloud, global waste shredding brand UNTHA and decommissioning consultancy RVA.
