Nigel wins award for taking pride in the job

-

Dewsbury MP Paula Sherriff presents the Pride in the Job award to Nigel Smith, of Darren Smith Homes, watched by his brother Darren (right) and Geoff Egginton, North East regional director of the National House Building Council recognised for his skills building high-quality homed at the firm’s St Paul’s Lock retirement complex – a collection of one and two-bedroom apartments in Mirfield.

Dewsbury MP Paula Sherriff visited the site to congratulate Nigel and to hear about the challenges facing the industry – including how the government can support small housebuilders such as Darren Smith Homes to build the new homes the country needs.

The Labour MP’s visit was organised by the NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty provider and insurance provider for new homes, to showcase the high quality new homes at the Yorkshire development. Paula Sherriff MP congratulated Darren Smith Homes for their outstanding work on the development. She listened to challenges the industry is currently facing to help gain a better understanding of how Government can support small house builders such as Darren Smith Homes to build the high quality new homes the country needs.

Paula said: “It was great to meet with award winning local builder Nigel Smith at St Paul’s Lock in Mirfield and hear of the pride that he and his small firm take in their work.

“It’s always good to have the chance to meet local business people and to hear about what can be done nationally to support them. It’s clear that there is more that can be done for those small house builders who offer much needed high quality housing - something I’ll be following closely in Parliament.”

Darren said: “We are delighted that one of our local MPs has taken the time and trouble to visit St Paul’s Lock and see the new, age-exclusive homes that we are building in Mirfield.

“Ours is a great example of a small building company working within a conservation area and delivering high quality, cost-effective homes with absolutely no compromise on quality or value. We’ve had a lot of very encouraging testimonials and feedback from both buyers and local people, alike.”

Geoff Egginton, NHBC regional director for the North East, said: “We were delighted to be able to show Paula Sherriff this great development. Darren Smith Homes are providing much-needed high quality new homes for older people in the area. St Paul’s Lock will be a fantastic development for the area and has already received one of the highest industry accolades.
