More mayhem on street of late-night violence

A 44-year-old man was also taken to hospital.

Police have said they are looking to speak to a teenage male in connection with the first outbreak of violence.

He is described as around 5ft 5ins tall, black with short black hair and a thin moustache. He was wearing a light greay tracksuit with stripes down the arms.

Police also confirmed that when they attended the scene, another fight broke out.

Officers arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of affray and possession of Class B drugs. He remained in custody yesterday.

A police scene was still in place on Saturday morning, with a police cordon closing off the street. The incidents follow many episodes of violence on Cross Church Street.

Teenager Jess Coleman suffered serious facial injuries after she was glassed in the face at Five Bar on the street in May, while one man had his jaw broken after he was punched in an unprovoked attack on the street in December.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 4.20am on Saturday morning to reports of a fight, which occurred on Cross Church Street in Huddersfield.

Various injured parties were identified, receiving hospital treatment.

“Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered a further incident in which a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a Class B drug.”

“Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111 or via the live chat system on the Force website.”
