FA flags up need for new referees
THE Huddersfield and District FA are appealing for new referees.
Courses are available for anyone wishing to train to become an official, while the FA are also looking for referee observers.
“The popularity of playing football means that there is an everincreasing demand for referees to officiate at all levels – from junior to senior open age sections,” said the Huddersfield and District FA.
“Anyone – male or female – wanting to become a referee is catered for by the training courses run by the West Riding County Football Association, where full instruction and help is given to not only apply the Laws of the game, but also how to interpret and understand what the laws mean.
“After qualifying from the training course, continuous help is given so a new referee is not left to manage alone, but has an experienced colleague to refer to for help and guidance.
“In addition, becoming a member of the Huddersfield and District Referees’ Association ensures a new referee has contact with other officials who are willing to help and advise.
“Along with the need to fill referee vacancies, the FA also requires observers and mentors for the advancement opportunities that are available to new and established referees.
“The number of observers is very low in Huddersfield, therefore this would be a good opportunity for anyone who has refereed and may have finished refereeing for whatever reason, but would still like to be involved and help referees.”
