Thieves pinch ammo, golf
THE theft of a rifle and ammunition from a van parked in is being investigated by West Yorkshire Police.
The firearm and ammo were taken on October 11 from a Citroen van parked on Station Road. Also taken were firearms certificates.
In a separate incident, an alleged thief was caught with his pockets full of stolen sat-navs when a police dog unit was called out to on October 14.
Police were called out in the early hours to Highfield Crescent in Meltham and discovered the alleged thief inside a car on Oak Avenue.
Here are details of the latest crimes reported to police in Huddersfield:
October 19 at 12.10pm: Suspects tried to get into a house on Alder Street, Fartown, using a crowbar but did not gain entry.
In addition to the rifle, firearms certificates and ammunition stolen from a van in Marsden, five other crimes were reported but the complaints asked for locations not to be made public.
They included the theft of an expensive pedal cycle and a Mitsubishi Challenger car. There was also an aggravated ‘taking without consent’ of a Corsa which was driven dangerously and then recovered by police.
October 16 at 11pm - cash and bottles of spirits were stolen from a house on Pear Street by a thief who kicked in the front door.
October 18 at 8.30am - a total of £460 in cash was taken by a thief who got in a house on Park Road West through a first floor window which had been left ajar.
October 19 at 8am - A BMX was stolen from a garden on Graham Lane.
October 20 at 10pm - a stolen motorbike was found in a field off Lightenfield Lane, Netherton. A man was seen running away from the scene.
October 16 at 10am - a thief broke into a house on St Mary’s Lane but made off after being disturbed.
October 17 at 11am - a TV and car keys were stolen from a house on Kilner Bank.
October 18 at 5.30pm - cash, jewellery, a mobile phone and a laptop were taken from a house on Cow Heys.
October 19 at noon - a thief used a crowbar to force a front uPVC door of a house on Coniston Avenue. Several items were taken.
October 19 at 6pm - a thief pulled a fuse from an outside fuse box which cut off the electricity to a house on Colne Bridge. They broke in through the side door and stole jewellery and keys to a vehicle.
October 20 at 8pm - a fuse was removed from an outside box by a thief who attacked a back door with a breeze block at Long Lane, Dalton. Nothing stolen.
October 10 at 9pm - a thief tried to get into a house in Maple Avenue at Golcar while the householder was in bed. A door chain prevented access.
October 12 at midnight - commercial power tools were stolen from a Vauxhall Vivaro panel van on Rufford Road.
October 15 at 2.20am - a thief tried to get into a house through a window on Lockbridge Way, Milnsbridge. The suspect fled when the victim woke up.
Another four crimes were reported but the locations can’t be disclosed. They included the theft of a Piaggio scooter from a garden and the theft of registration plates from a parked Honda CRV.
October 19 at 11.45am - a house on Forrest Avenue at Marsh was broken into by a thief who smashed glass on patio doors. Cupboards and drawers were searched.
October 10 at 9.30am - a sat-nav and CDs were stolen from a VW Polo on Holmebank Mews, Brockholes.
October 14 at 3.10am - a suspect was arrested after being seen entering a car on Highfield Crescent, Meltham. He was arrested on Oak Avenue and found to be carrying a number of sat-navs and other items in his pockets. A police dog unit was sent to the scene. The suspected thief was found inside a black Peugeot.
