Striker hopes to find sting at Hornets...

-

LAURENT Depoitre hopes the scene of last season’s most prolific away win can be a victorious launchpad for this term’s Town Premier League revival.

The 29-year-old Belgian has led the line with promise and endeavour in the past four top-flight matches, after providing back-up to Steve Mounie in the first five (he started in the Carabao Cup at Stoke).

He was on the mark at Vicarage Road last season, where Town scored a spectacular 4-1 victory despite having Jonathan Hogg sent off with 29 minutes still to play.

Depoitre’s goal put Town 3-0 up against Watford at the time and those happy memories of that day will provide inspiration for this weekend’s assignment against Javi Gracia’s side – who are fresh from a 2-0 victory at Wolves.

“Last year it was a good game for the team and for me as well,” said Depoitre, who is still looking for his first goal of the campaign – and his first since that memorable strike at Chelsea which secured Town’s place in the top flight last May.

“It was a really big win for us, 4-1 there, one of our biggest of the season and really good memories, so I am hoping we can repeat the scenario.

“We need to get points now, so we will do everything we can to get something there.”

Depoitre feels Town were unlucky to come out empty-handed against Liverpool but believes performances point to better times ahead.

After Watford, Town take on Fulham and West Ham at home.

A Sunday trip to Wolves follows, before Brighton kicks-off December at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town then have the away doubleheader to Bournemouth and Arsenal in the space of five days.

“We were running and playing good, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the result.

“The fans, though, were behind us before the game and also after the game, so that is really good for our confidence for the next games. We are all confident, but it’s hard when you see how many points we have after nine games. When you look at the performances we know we deserve more, but we have to stay positive because, when you see the quality of the last few performances, we have our chance to stay up.” Depoitre says he enjoyed doing battle with Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren in the Liverpool game and, even though Mo Salah gave the visitors the lead, he always felt Town would score. “They are really strong and I knew before the game it would be a big battle, with a lot of duals and contacts, and that’s what happened,” he said. “In the first half we made high pressure and we saw they were in difficulty – we made it hard for them. “We got some chances and I was thinking we can maybe take something at home, but unfortunately it didn’t turn like we expected, even though it was a good performance.” “The key thing is to stay focused, keep working and the points will come, I’m sure.”
