Students’ terror in gun scare at college

The young man was later interviewe­d by police and has been released and will face no further action.

Around five police vehicles attended the incident, according to one witness.

One parent told the Examiner that students had overheard a teacher saying there was a pupil in the college with a gun and to keep pupils in their classrooms.

“My son was scared. It was awful hearing about it.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 9.27am on Tuesday, November 13, to a college on Old Fieldhouse Lane to a report of a concern for safety.

“Officers attended and a 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.

“An air weapon was recovered by officers. Following interview, the 17-year-old has been released facing no further action.”

A spokespers­on from the college said the incident had been dealt with swiftly by police.

“There was an incident at Brunel Constructi­on Centre. The police were called and were swift in their response arriving at the site and taking control of the situation.

“The safety and wellbeing of all our students is of paramount importance, we acted on instructio­n from the police to keep our students safe in their classrooms whilst the incident was resolved.

“All lessons and normal activities continued as planned during the afternoon.”
