INTERNATIONALS WERE MASSIVE STEP FORWARD FOR RUGBY LEAGUE England Test series a fantastic showcase

-

THE international matches have come to an end and, on the whole, the Test series was a huge success for the sport, not just England Rugby League.

I was massively impressed with what they did on the field – but more so off the field, it was a massive step forwards in terms of reach from a media and marketing perspective to really spread the game.

There was so much respect for Remembrance Sunday too, with the poppy emblazoned jersey, and it put rugby league in a good light. The Knights also did a great job.

We’ve showcased rugby league in the best possible way through the recent international series.

The pinnacle was at Elland Road where they attracted a big crowd and, for the first time in a while, we didn’t look like a minority sport, we looked professional and it was a fantastic showcase for the game.

It was great to see my close friend Jermaine McGillvary put on the England shirt for all three Test matches, he showed once again why he’s one of the best wingers in the world and I can’t wait to see him back in Claret and Gold in 2019.

Joining Jerry on the other wing next season will be Akuila Uate.

When we talk about world-class players with a massive reputation, he certainly falls into that bracket.

We will see a truly frightening back line in 2019 with those two on the edges and it will be a pleasure to watch.

Matt Frawley has also joined the club, it’s always exciting to see a young, talented Australian half-back come over to Super League and I’m sure that he’ll bring a lot of quality with him.

I’m really looking forward to 2019 and seeing some genuine topquality players in the Giants colours for a season that holds a lot of hope and optimism.
