Town players ready to take on the world

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town have six representatives in international action this week.

Steve Mounie, Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen and Aaron Mooy will all turn out for their respective nations, while Ramadan Sobhi, Isaac Mbenza and Abdelhamid Sabiri will represent their countries’ youth teams.

Striker Mounie will link up with the Benin squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash with Gambia on Saturday, (4.30pm).

The match, which will be played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, is a crucial one for the Squirrels, who could secure qualification to the AFCON finals with a victory - something they have not achieved since 2010.

To advance in the tournament, however, Mounie’s side must beat bottom-of-the-group Gambia and hope league leaders Algeria claim three points against Togo the following day.

Zanka’s Denmark have two fixtures to contend with over the international break, with the Danes facing both Wales and the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League.

The Scandinavian side travel to the Cardiff City Stadium first, with kick off at 7.45pm tomorrow, before hosting Ireland at Ceres Park in Aarhus on Monday (7.45pm kick-off ).

Denmark sit second in the group behind Wales, but have a game in hand on Ryan Giggs’ outfit.

Two wins from two would take them through to the next stage of the Nations League, with neither side able to catch Age Hareide’s Danes. Town midfielder Mooy has joined up with the Australia national side this week ahead of the Socceroos’ friendly double-header against South korea and Lebanon.

The matches represent the Aussies’ last friendlies before the AFC Asian Cup in January, with manager Graham Arnold selecting Mooy for the South Korea clash in Brisbane on Saturday (8.50am kick-off ).

The Town star could also feature in his hometown of Sydney against Lebanon on Tuesday (8.30am kickoff), but the boss is yet to select a 23-man squad from the 27 players he has gathered for that particular game. Ramadan will represent Egypt’s Under-23s in friendlies against Tunisia tonight and Algeria on Monday as they prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.

Finally, Sabiri and Mbenza will represent the German and Belgian Under-21 sides respectively.

Germany take on the Netherlands tomorrow (7pm kick-off ), while Belgium take on Romania’s Under-21s tonight (5pm kick-off).
