Care home rated ‘inadequate’ in new inspection

-

The report says inspectors observed residents’ call bells “ringing frequently and for long periods of time” and on six occasions they witnessed a slow response to ‘emergency’ call bells. They also found one person who could not move on their own having to shout for help as they had no emergency button within reach. The CQC report says during its visit there were only eight members of staff trying to care for 43 people, most of whom required two people’s help at a time. “We concluded staff were not deployed appropriately to support the needs of people living at the home,” the report says. Inspectors also criticised medicine management and the infection control standards. Residents were also found to be given little say over their meals “because there were not enough staff.” The home is one of five in Huddersfield run by Chesterfield-based Hillcare, only one of which is rated ‘Good’ - Aden Lodge in Clayton West. A spokesperson for Hillcare, which also runs Aden View care home from the same premises, said: “We are deeply disappointed by the findings of the recent CQC inspection and have taken immediate action to address the issues raised. “Our highest priority is providing a safe, comfortable and caring environment for our residents and we have conducted a thorough review of our services, procedures and staff levels to ensure those standards are met.”
