Boss calls for support to be FAN TASTIC!

-

MATHIAS ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen will return to Town’s starting line-up for today’s home Premier League clash with Brighton.

The Dane missed the win over Wolves last weekend through suspension.

However, manager David Wagner says he will start today, and that having last week off may have done the defender some good after a busy spell of international football.

“If he is fit and he comes through the next training fine, which is what I expect, then he will be back in the starting XI,” said Wagner.

“Hopefully some days away will have helped him, because I gave him some days off in Denmark, in Copenhagen, after the second game which he played for Denmark.

“This will hopefully have allowed him to get his head a little bit clear and now he came back last weekend.

“He looks fine, he looks good, he looks sharp.

“Obviously he likes to be involved again in this period where we are collecting points, and hopefully he can continue what he has done before, to perform on a very, very high level and to be one of our rocks at the back.”

Wagner will have to try and keep his players fresh with the hectic Christmas and New Year period coming up. But the Town boss says he can’t start looking too far ahead.

“At the end I think it’s important to just take it game by game,” he said.

“It’s pointless thinking about what is ahead.

“Think only of the next game and focus fully on that.

“We have to make sure we are in the best form we can be in and on the highest level.” DAVID Wagner admits winning back-to-back games in the Premier League would be ‘very big’ for Town and their hopes of avoiding relegation this season.

The Terriers head into today’s game against Brighton at the John Smith’s Stadium on the back of victory over Wolves at Molineux last DAVID Wagner has revealed Town are in contact with Australia over Aaron Mooy.

The Aussie could miss up to six matches at the start of 2019 as he plays for his nation in the Asian Cup.

Australia kick-off against Jordan in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, January 6, and should they progress fully in the tournament the final is not due to be played until February 1.

If Mooy is called away to prepare Sunday. Seven points from a possible nine in their last three matches has seen them rise up the Premier League table.

But with everything being so tight in the bottom half of the table, a run of wins could lift a team clear.

Last season, Town managed backto-back wins only twice, and Wagner is keen for them to do it again against Brighton today.

And he knows the fans can play a with his national squad, he could miss the Premier League matches against Burnley, Cardiff, Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea, in addition to a potential FA Cup fifth round encounter.

So Arsenal at home on February 9 could be Mooy’s first Town appearance of 2019. Should the Socceroos be eliminated then, obviously, he will be back sooner.

“We are in touch with them (Australia),” huge part in helping them achieve just that. “We know winning backto-back games is something very big – we have done this only twice in the last season and now we have the opportunity to do it again, at home, against a very good opponent,” he said.

“We know we have to look after ourselves and get everything right – it makes no sense to be too focused on the opponent.

“But if we can reach our level we know we are uncomfortable to play against – and we want to make sure it isn’t nice to play against us and that it is uncomfortable for Brighton.

“I have always said the fans play a huge part in our game and in our performances as well.

“Especially at home, we have to make sure that we again create this fortress, one that is not enjoyable for our opposition to play in at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“For this, our supporters have to play their part like they have done in the past – and I have every trust

Our supporters have to play their part, just like they have in the past

said Wagner. “But that has been the case since I arrived and since Aaron was here because he is always away on international duty.

“I think it is too far away to get our head around at the minute.

“I don’t think we should lose any energy, especially Aaron, thinking about what is in January.

“It is all about keeping focused on the important things, and that means Brighton. We will try to bring everything and belief they will do it in the future, especially on Saturday again.” After their last three results, Town are starting to get some respect from the rest of the country.

But Wagner says that isn’t important as they look to stay in the Premier League.

“This is nothing that bothers me,” he said. “We know that we play in the Premier League, we know how difficult that is, we are still so humble because we know where we have come from and we know the circumstances we face, day in and day out. “But we are ambitious, like we always were, and we will not set ourselves limits. We have never done that. “Win, lose or draw we just like to make sure we perform on the level we are capable of. “If we do this, then I will be satisfied. I will be happy if we get a reward like last weekend. “And when our supporters are there on their best level, too, then our chances will be even better.” in the situation, which is suitable for us and for the Federation of Australia as well, but, as I said, this is too far away to waste any energy on it.

“We will speak with the Federation and we will see what happens when the tournament starts.”

Meanwhile, Mooy has been nominated in the PFA Bristol Street Motors Premier League Player of the Month Awards for November.
