Depoitre seeing red after Mou’s given early bath

-

LAURENT Depoitre said Huddersfield Town players were left perplexed by refereeing decisions in the defeat against Brighton.

Striker Steve Mounie was sent off just after half-an-hour and Town were denied a penalty when Alex Pritchard went down in the box.

The Terriers were 1-0 up through Mathias Jorgensen, but ended up losing 2-1. And now David Wagner will lose Mounie for tonight’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth as he begins a three-match ban.

“There are a few decisions from the referee that we don’t understand, it changes the game completely,” said Depoitre. “I thought it was a clear penalty on Pritchard, it could have been 2-0 and then the game could have been completely different.

“I don’t like to speak about the referees, but he played a big role in the defeat.”

Town’s 29-yearold Belgium international spoke to Mounie after the game about the red card and gave his own views.

“To be honest I don’t know but if that was a red card it could have been a red card to them as well and that is a problem,” he said.

“If it is 2-0 I don’t think we would lose this game. He (Mounie) spoke to me, he didn’t think it was a red card because he said they were both going for the ball, and he didn’t have the intention to do something wrong, so it is a hard decision.” The Terriers now have a quick turn around, facing Bournemouth on the south coast, and although Town were defeated against Brighton, Depoitre believes the team

will recover well and bounce back against the Cherries. “I think we were in a really good flow and now we are disappointed, but we know that it isn’t really our fault. The decisions were against us and we now have to try and forget that game and focus on Tuesday.

“Bournemouth are a good team and away it is always difficult, but like I said I think we need to forget that game and just focus on this one. We will try to recover as best as possible because we know it was hard for the players’ bodies but we will do what we need to, to recover correctly.”
