Eddie who she had met when he served in the Army they moved to Blackpool where she loved dancing and singing.

She moved to Huddersfield around 15 years ago, after Eddie died. She lived with her nephew Peter Lowndes before moving to Bradley Court, Keldregate, Bradley.

Great-niece Mandy Whyman, a 48-year-old, mum-of-three of Dalton, who has looked after her for 17 years, said: “She was still going to watch Town at the ripe age of 98 years old with my dad Peter. He died eight years ago and that’s when she stopped going. She had been a season ticket holder. It’s astonishing but she was living on her own until she was 105 years old.

“It was a shame she had to come into a care home at the age of 105 and it took her some time before she settled down and has now been here since last October. The staff here at Aden are very good with her. She is happy and she is loved and although I’m a bit exhausted she’s doing very well!

“Her other passions are dominoes, televised snooker, bingo and snakes and ladders.”

Asked why she thought Mary had lived so long, Mandy said: “She has never smoked.

“She only drank very modestly indeed all her life and just enjoyed a very occasional glass of Baileys and will only be having a tiny glass of Lambrini today.”
