“It’s always a lovely event, last time the park was covered in snow which was quite romantic but rather cold!”

Elsewhere the Christmas spirit was in full flow at Dryclough Recreation Ground, Crosland Moor where dog owners let their imagination roam free.

Springers dog club hosted the Christmas party day event which saw a handler and dogs fancy dress competition judged by representatives from South Yorkshire English Springer Spaniel Rescue.

Tina Shaw said: “This year we are supporting the Kirklees Mayor’s charities and Gwen Lowe kindly visited us on Sunday to spend some time with us and receive our cheque donation.

“We are also proud to have a team of dogs who have qualified for the agility final at Crufts 2019.”
