parked cars on New Hey Road and police were able to detain him.”

Upon his arrest Edmund claimed to police that he was forced to commit the offences, magistrates were told.

He had 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Mr Bozman asked magistrates to determine that their sentencing powers were insufficient.

Magistrates agreed and sent Edmund, of Cowcliffe Hill Road in Fixby, to Leeds Crown Court for sentencing.

This will take place on January 4 and he was banned from driving in the interim.
