TANDING in Kelso Square with my mum, Christmas trees lighting up the cobbled streets, Georgian architectu­re framing my view, with the cute little boutiques dressed for the festive season and antique stores cram packed with goodies, even the icy bite in the fresh air couldn’t dampen my spirits. I had discovered the perfect preChristm­as get away exploring the Scottish Borders.

Earlier that day, driving through the beautiful Scottish countrysid­e, our first stop was the fishing town of Eyemouth. Lunch by the harbour at Oblo was a delight, an award winning bar and bistro which seemed popular with the locals.

It’s a modern glass structure which stood out in the traditiona­lly quiet town- well quiet to us, but we were visiting on St Andrew’s Day- a national Scottish holiday.
