Man breached court order by shopping
A MAN ignored a court order not to communicate with his ex so that they could go shopping for their son’s birthday present.
Jamie Wadsworth went with her to get the gift following a chance encounter in Primark in Huddersfield town centre.
He had been banned from speaking with her by a restraining order imposed in December last year.
But on May 23 the former couple were seen together in the New Street fashion store by a social worker who knew them.
Natalie Chapman, prosecuting, told Kirklees Magistrates’ Court that the social worker watched as Wadsworth moved to another part of the shop before they left together.
She said: “The defendant said that she approached him and initiated a conversation about their child’s birthday gift and asked him to help her buy it which he did.
“He said he didn’t comply (with the order) but didn’t initiate the conversation.”
Sonia Kidd, mitigating, said that her 25-year-old client and his ex met in the store by chance.
She told the Huddersfield court: “She walked up to see if he would go with her to buy a tablet for their son’s birthday because she wanted his funds to make that purchase.
“They left to buy the tablet together and then went their separate ways. He goes one way and she goes the other.
“It was a meeting that was not prearranged. It’s an unfortunate breach of the order in that she’s come across to him and asked him to go with her to the store to make that purchase.
“She wasn’t threatened or in fear of him.”
Magistrates gave Wadsworth, of Yews Hill Road in Lockwood, a six-month conditional discharge.
This means that he will not be punished further if he stays out of trouble during this period.
He will still have to pay a £20 victim surcharge. 2 Nights Half Board stay at The Elgin Hotel ‘Bubbly’ reception Friday Stall ticket & transport to and from the Opera House to see Jane McDonald in concert Friday Night Fantastic Elvis Entertainment and Illusion show in the Hotel on Saturday Night
