Let’s discuss improving not so smart motorway

-

Well done lass, it’s a scary enough road to stand next to up there on a good day let alone under those conditions. I NOTICED with great interest that there was a major problem on the M62 this week as the smart motorway system was not working and the fourth lane could not be opened.

My wife does her daily commute to Bradford from J22 at Rishworth Moor to J26 M606, and you can bet there is a problem on an almost daily basis on this section due to the smart motorway.

As a regular driver myself covering 25 to 30,000 miles per year I am totally convinced that all M62 from the M1 heading west bound to Huddersfield after 3pm, the speed restrictions will be in force, with no volume of traffic, slowing everyone down to 50mph and causing a major jam before the upcoming rushhour period even begins.

Finally, as happened this week and the system failed would it not be more appropriate for the fourth lane to be open between 6am and 10am on a daily basis Monday to Friday and only to be closed when signage states, so if the system fails the traffic still flows.

I do appreciate though that something as simple and obvious as this may be a little too radical for our learned friends controlling the system.

If you read this, thank you for your time, it’s not a moan, it’s just to promote debate and maybe with some more people’s opinions who use the motorway on a regular basis we can put forward some constructive ideas to keep the traffic moving freely. I SYMPATHISE with Mrs Addison (Thursday’s Examiner) regarding a dog fouling her lawn.

We had the same problem so I had to resort to locking our gate which has eliminated the problem. Friends told me no-one would do that, so it must be wild animals.

Yes we have the occasional fox and badger but their droppings are distinctive. I am now wondering if the culprit and their dog have moved away from Kirkheaton.
