Saint Pierre fires warning out to Town

-

points earned at the weekend will hand the Saints a boost heading into their upcoming festive fixtures, which start at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

The midfielder told the club’s official website: “Hopefully we can use this as a springboard.

“We have to stay focused and realistic but use the confidence from the positive moments from this game because we played very well.

“We scored three goals against one of the best teams in the league so it’s a really big result.

“We cannot get carried away, we have to stay strong and keep building and it all starts again in training.

“We need to take the confidence with us and believe we can win the next game as well.”

On the boost the win over Arsenal handed the Saints, Hojbjerg added: “I’m proud and honoured to be a part of this game.

“A win at home against Arsenal with the difficulties of the relegation zone, and to produce a result like this, it is a big boost to get out.

“We really felt the fans’ support. “I have to be honest, through the whole season they have always been there and we, the players, feel that and we want to fight for that.

“Most importantly we want to fight for the club and take it to the next level.”

The Dane went on to hail the influence of Hasenhuttl, who he believes has brought a fresh approach to the Saints’ squad.

The 23-year-old said: “He has brought new ideas and given everyone a mental and physical boost and that’s what the group needed.

“We did some of the things that the manager wanted and it really paid off, especially for the final goal.

“It’s important for everyone after the loss [against Cardiff City] to see that the work we did during the week with the coach, believing in him, believing in the system, believing in ourselves but still not losing the DNA of the club and the players. It was massive towards getting the three points on Sunday.”

Danny Ings netted twice against the Gunners before Charlie Austin’s winner secured the three points, and the former Burnley and Liverpool forward also spoke about the impact of the Saints’ newlyappointed Austrian manager after the victory.

He said: “I think you could see it. We were pressing all over the pitch, and that comes from the training pitch.

“We haven’t had that much work with him yet, but you can see we’re going in the right direction and you can only take great confidence from a performance like that.

“When you come to the weekend and you know you’ve given everything in the week - tactically, watching clips - when you see a plan come off, there’s no better feeling.

“To go home to your family and friends knowing you’ve had a great week... as a club we should all take great confidence from the win because it felt like we were all as one, on and off the pitch, which is fantastic. It’s huge - it’s exactly what we’ve needed. When you look at the position we’re in, quite frankly it’s not good enough with the players we’ve got.”
