AN elderly man opened his door hoping to see Christmas carol singers, only to be robbed at knifepoint by a shaven-headed thug.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a pair of pensioners were the victims of a robbery.

The OAP was fooled into answering his door after hearing carol singing.

When he did, instead of a finding a group of festive fundraisers, he found himself being confronted by a man with a blade.

Police say the male occupant fell to the floor, suffering minor injuries.

Demands were made and the occupants handed over money.

Detectives say the incident happened at a home on Lumley Road, Hanging Heaton, near Dewsbury, at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Det Insp Stephanie Fox of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty robbery against two elderly people. In the end the male only made off with a small amount of money.

“The victims were very frightened by the ordeal and I would appeal to any witnesses to the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around 4.30pm to come forward.

“We would always urge people to be extra vigilant when answering the door to unexpected callers – for example by having a chain on the door and using it.”

Police would like to speak with a white male approximately 5ft 10in tall and of a stocky, muscular build in connection with this incident.

He appeared to be around 40 years old and had a shaved head.

He was wearing a plain grey anorak with a hood, a dark coloured scarf covering his mouth and nose and grey tracksuit bottom.
