Locals getting together to call for rail improvements
My eldest had his benefits cut so I appealed and was denied, took them to a tribunal and their decision was upheld. After almost a year it went to court and I won! It’s an absolute farce! Having been to a PIP assessment with a friend, they don’t even listen to the person or care what is wrong with them. WE were pleased to see you give some coverage to the problems faced by people trying to catch trains from local stations across our area, and to and from Leeds and Manchester.
You rightly point out that Batley and Slaithwaite have sunk right to the bottom in train performance league tables, and are among the worst 10 stations nationally.
Over the past six months, almost exactly corresponding to the new, unworkable timetable, Slaithwaite has had the worst service of any station in the country. Marsden is among the worst 20.
Your readers may like to know that local people are getting together to campaign for improvements. Representatives from the group Slaithwaite and Marsden Action on Rail Transport (SMART) are meeting with railway companies and local and regional politicians, and trying to raise the profile of the problems we are having in this forgotten part of the country, so far from the decision-makers in London.
Later this week, thanks to Thelma Walker MP, we have a meeting arranged with Secre- tary of State for Transport Chris Grayling.
Anyone who would like to join us can find us at www.smartrail.co.uk or on facebook.
Incidentally, there’s going to be more coverage in some serious media outlets.
You may have seen that the Manchester Evening News finally covered the Mossley debacle earlier this week, and Spencer Stokes from BBC Look North is looking to film at Slaithwaite station. Also probably two bits of coverage on IT V, on January 2 and 25. IN the chaos that now surrounds Brexit let us not overlook the positive outcome of the referendum.
It demonstrated that the impulse for personal liberty and freedom in the English people is still strong.
This, in spite of all the efforts of the political elite to instil fear in us and to divide us into warring factions through the bribery of selective privileges and benefits.
Their frantic and hysterical efforts to thwart Brexit may succeed but we should be encouraged that in the long run we will still prevail WHY is the Examiner giving such prominence to Brexiteers particularly those talking nonsense?
An example being a letter on Friday, November 30, bemoaning the fact the correspondent doesn’t get another vote to change the MP’s he’s not impressed with
More Brexiteer idiocy. The fact is democracy is a rolling process with elections at the most every five years giving him a regular opportunity to vote to change his MP. MONDAY, December 10, what a treat for us all at the lunchtime Christmas Brass Band Spectacular.
The smart young people giving their best, under the great conductor Philip McCann.
