THREE-GAME LAY-OFF

IS FRESH AFTER HIS

-

“I think he played very well against West Ham and Wolves and, against Brighton, he was in good form for 30 minutes while he was on the grass.”

Although the duo have put in some solid performances, neither Mounie nor fellow forward Laurent Depoitre have scored so far this season, despite the pair bagging 15 goals between them last term.

Wagner revealed he has spoken to his goal-getters about finding the net, and went on to suggest that his job was to give them the confidence they need to start converting their chances.

He said: “We have one-to-one conversations, I have spoken to them both together and we have spoken in the team meetings.

“We do our stuff on the pitch, we have video meetings about the situations where they have done well and where they should have done better.

“At the end, it’s all about giving them the belief.

“It’s not the easiest job they have, this is why usually the strikers get paid the most, but they have to believe they can do it.

“They have done it in the past, so we know they can, and now it’s all about the present and making sure we prepare to play Southampton.

“The past doesn’t help when you are successful and it doesn’t help, either, when you are not successful - you have to be focused on what is right in front of you.”
